With normal image files this works. The image display just fine but do not have a file extension so the discover file by checking contents option is on in the preferences. Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Select image file(s) without a file extension. 2. Select Tools -> Rename Series 3. Crash! Expected Results: Rename Series window should pop up with the file list so the names can altered. How often does this happen? Everytime. Confirmed in 2.7.7 and current CVS. To reproduce this, you need to set Edit > Pref > Browser > Determine image type from content, so that the extensionless files show up in the browser.
