Description François Tissandier 2006-03-31 07:36:10 UTC
I have a mobile phone which can only play mp3 songs. I have mainly .ogg songs on
my computer, and I would like to convert them easily before transferring them
manually on the phone. However I cannot do this in banshee, as it's not an iPod.
If banshee can convert to mp3 for Ipod, without not offer the functionnality in
the main menu for instance (Music > Export to mp3)? I know I should wait for a
plugin for my mobile phone, but it could take a long time before each mp3 player
is compatible with banshee. With this functionnality, at least the convert step
is easy, only the transfer is manual. There are no other easy solution to
convert audio files in Gnome, unless you install an additional application. I
think it would be easier if I could do it in Banshee directly.

I think it could be implemented as a plugin (Export to ...)

Moving to the iPod component.

No, that was wrong, got fooled by the title. Let's put this in... Plugins!

If your phone is a USB mass storage device, you should get the HAL FDI entries updated so that it knows your supported formats.

Then, file a bug to tell Banshee to only export .mp3 files to your phone because HAL said so.

Banshee will then recognize your phone as a DAP, and transcode all tracks for you.

Open a new bug if you will be filing against the UMS driver in the future.
