GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 336351
[AdvancedTimeline] More ideas
Last modified: 2008-10-11 10:33:17 UTC
1) ruler too tall -> there's no need for it to be that large, see http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/features/audio.html and http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/features/editing.html -> should show time as well on the timeline 2) horizontal scrollbar takes up too much vertical space I attached a picture with these bugs and references to some other bugs as well.
Created attachment 62208 [details] ui bugs
keeping this open since UI is still not good
Created attachment 64064 [details] annotated screenshot of pitivi Attached a new annotated screenshot. Looking much better, thanks for the improvements. Suggestion for now: hide the square of the timeline table that says "timeline", and the "simple view" option menu, so that the timeline goes across the whole screen. Just for this release or so -- when you introduce the complex timeline later it will be really nice :)
Re: horizontal scrollbar. It would given a cleaner look if the horizontal scrollbar was only shown as needed, and hidden otherwise.
Sony Vegas (obviously my favorite editor :P) has the ability to zoom using the horizontal scrollbar. This would make use out of the horizontal scrollbar. I'll boot into Windows and get a screenshot of that function.
http://comitar.com/chris/downloads/zoominvegas.mpg is a video I made of Vegas's zooming with the scrollbar this is an awesome feature and if it could be implemented somehow in Pitivi that'd be killer.
Nice screencast, looks like an excellent feature!
but seems really tricky to do with stock GTK+ widgets ... it means creating a completely new widget :(
Hello ed, here is the screencast I made a few days ago and intended to show you. I guess this is the place :) I can make as much screencasts as you want. This one is quite long (7 minutes, 22mb), but I definitely think we could benefit from setting up a "demo screencasts" place where we could show some interesting features coming from other applications. What do you think? http://open-source.ecchi.ca/projets/pitivi/vegas6-01.ogg mirror: http://http://kiddo.forthfreak.net/vegas6-01.ogg Advanced timeline demonstration video - drag and drop everywhere - scrubbing (1:05) - timeline zooming (1:12 and elsewhere) - preview quality (1:25) - vumeters (1:37) - inserting new layers, dragging clips on layers (1:45) - automatic layer creation when dragging (1:54) - layer folding (2:01) - adjusting the transparency/opacity of a clip (2:08) - automatic crossfading (2:20) - changing transitions (2:32) - audio clip volume adjustment (3:18) - audio clip fade-in (3:21) - setting the in/out points of a clip (3:30) - splitting a clip (3:50), not recommended because not intuitive - muting video/audio tracks/making tracks solo (4:15) - changing the opacity of a track (4:25) - rearranging the size of tracks, playing with zoom (4:30) - video effects (5:10) - opacity curves; "envelopes" (6:10) - audio curves; "envelopes" (6:35) - rendering (7:05)
Hmm, I fear I may be hijacking that thread, so if you want me to create a separate bug out of my previous comment, just tell me
JF, put those ideas/comments/screencasts on the wiki instead.
All issues mentionned initially are gone or done apply anymore.
