GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 336186
Gnome Volume Control applet should display "digital output" switch
Last modified: 2006-05-29 16:13:18 UTC
That bug has been described on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-media/+bug/34638 "In order for someone with digital speakers to get their speakers to produce sound, they have to open a terminal, run alsamixer, and enable the proper option. This option would be much easier to discover if displayed under the 'Switches' tab in Gnome Volume Control, as opposed to scrolling though the dozens of options in alsamixer (a new user might not even know to use alsamixer). ... > Thanks for your bug. Is that option listed by the properties of the gnome-volume-properties application? Is that your bug about activating by default instead having to go to the preferences about it? ... The option is in the preferences window. I'm suggesting that the "Digital Output" option be selected by default (only on computers on which the option is relevent) in the preferences window so that it will be visible in the "Switches" tab. It is an important option, as having it off will mean that sound will not work for anyone with digital speakers. The option should be made visible to help new users who have digital speakers. I'm not saying the option should be enabled. What I'm suggesting is that the option should be made visible."
> only on computers on which the option is relevent And how do I find out? Anyway, fixed: 2006-05-29 Ronald S. Bultje <rbultje@ronald.bitfreak.net> * gst-mixer/src/element.h: Add dig. output to whitelist (#336186).
