Description Joachim Noreiko 2006-03-24 13:09:56 UTC
This window pops up when you click the '...' button next to Keyboard model in the Layouts tab.

In its default size:
- the left-hand column is too small for many options
- the right-hand pane is too small to see the letters on the keyboard

Additionally, when I expand the window to a better size, and close it, the next time it's back to its earlier size.

Sorry, wrong button: it's the 'Add...' button in the Layouts tab.
Comment 2 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2006-03-28 00:55:48 UTC
The initial size is as large as it can be (on minimal supported GNOME monitors). So this is not a bug. But you are right - it would make sense to keep the dialog position between runs. I will consider it for 2.16
Comment 3 Joachim Noreiko 2006-03-28 20:29:31 UTC
Is there any way it could detect the monitor size and have a larger default if possible?
Applications such as Gedit surely do this since their default window size is larger.

I don't see how this is useful on a small monitor anyway, as the letters are too small to read. It might be an idea to ask the Usability list about making the image larger and scrolling horizontally for small monitors.

Well, the default is in the glade file for a moment, so it is static. And I do not think it is nice to maximize the window from the very first run. It is not an editor or browser. I think once we add ability to remember the size - the situation will be acceptable. I would love to add the Maximize button - but it is not available for dialogs unfortunately.

In CVS, there layout chooser remembers its position and size. So I am closing this bug - I really do not want to maximize the window automatically. Feel free to reopen if you are not happy with the current solution
