Description john lighton 2006-03-13 18:55:32 UTC
Hi gurus & guresses,

This is about LASSO SELECTION. Photoshop lets you click on lasso selection, alt-click on the image, then while holding down the alt key, release the mouse button and a straight rubberband appears. You click to anchor it at its endpoint, then move on to moving and anchoring the next rubberband while still holding down the alt key. When you're done, release both the alt key and the mouse button and the enclosed area is selected. This lets you ACCURATELY lasso straight-edged objects with complex borders, which, laydeez and gentlethings, is NOT possible by holding down the mouse button and gliding by hand. It isn't possible, really - take my word for it, or just TRY to do a perfect straight line with a desktop mouse. It's easy on Photoshop. It's impossible with Gimp. Now, I'd love to use and support Gimp but I can't do either because my work absolutely requires straight-edge rubberbanding during lasso selection. It would be ever so nice if you could support this essential feature in your next release.

Love ya!

John

This is a duplicate of bug 119646. From the discussion there, you'll see that many people don't really need this addition to the lasso tool, and so it isn't there yet. Its inclusion into GIMP could be done much faster if you (or anyone else who needs it badly enough) would add a patch to this bug.
