Description Tony Houghton 2006-03-06 20:39:33 UTC
My primary monitor with Xinerama is on the right. When X starts the pointer is
(just - on the left edge of) the right hand monitor, but gdm uses the left
monitor for the login screen. I have to move the pointer to focus the
username/password widget then move it back before my session starts to make sure
my window manager chooses the screen I'm used to for auto-started applications.

Sorry, but I don't really understand what your problem is from your description. Could you be a bit more clear about what behavior you would like to see GDM
do?

Note the XineramaScreen config value in the GDM configuration. Not sure if this
will help you do what you want. You may also be able to play with the settings in the [servers] section to change behavior in the way the displays are set up. Check the GDM docs at http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm for more information about how to modify the config files.

I don't know if I'm hijacking this bug report, but the part where the mouse cursor is initially on the wrong Xinerama screen annoys me as well.

When gdm starts up in a dual-screen configuration, the login prompt is on the left screen, while the mouse cursor is on the right screen. I cannot use the keyboard to log in until I move the mouse to the left part of the screen.

I would like gdm to warp the mouse pointer to the center of the monitor that contains the login prompt, instead of keeping it in the center of the whole Xinerma desktop.

Fedora Core downstream bug report here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=180085

We should probably just grab focus on the greeter window explicitly
Comment 4 Brian Cameron 2006-03-11 01:15:30 UTC
I would accept a patch to fix this.
