GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331641
When starting, no URL is shown in the address bar
Last modified: 2011-10-17 01:53:24 UTC
I was testing GNOME 2.13.91. When starting epiphany on a fresh account, it opens Google as homepage. However, there's nothing in the address bar, while it would make sense to show the google URL. Thinking about it, it might be a feature (to invite the user to type an url). Not sure :-)
I believe it is a feature - so that people can easily type in a url, although chpe will be able to confirm.
I agree that we should try to make a 1:1 match of displayed page and address in the address bar when it's possible.
Bug 313012 requested the opposite thing...
Bug 313012 is asking to fight the symptom instead of the cause, because the actual problem is that the X selection is overwritten when you press Ctrl+L. But for that problem, bug 118395 is still open. I believe the right solution is to make Shift+Ctrl+L focus and clear the address bar without affecting the X selection.
the behavior with the initial window should be synchronized with the behavior for new windows/tabs: currently the initial window shows the homepage with no URL, but new windows or new tabs show the homepage WITH the URL
Is this still relevant with the webkit version?
