GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 331605
Nautilus opens a browser window on error
Last modified: 2006-04-09 23:19:17 UTC
From downstream ubuntu, Andrew Jorgensen reports: "If you use the location dialog (CTRL-L) to try to open a network service (ftp://localhost, for instance) and the connection can't be made and error dialog pops up AND a browser window opens to your home directory. This behavior is new in dapper." Sebastien Bacher, asked: "Thanks for your bug. Do you use the browser or the spatial mode? Is that specific to the desktop or happen when a window is open too?" To which Andrew replied: "I use spatial generally, but the bug is present in either mode. The bug appears to be specific to the desktop. It only happens if no nuatilus window is open. " Other information: FWIW, I can reproduce this using Ubuntu Dapper, Nautilus-2.13.91

IMHO the code was arranged so that you don't end up without any window when you requested one, i.e. you invoked it outside of GNOME. We're currently not considering the desktop window, though.
