Description Andrew Conkling 2006-02-08 15:23:54 UTC
By default, some of my icons show up partially off-screen because they are "too
far" to the left. I can move each one, but this will happen again when the next
icon shows up on the desktop. Since that time, I've also opted to create a new
gnome-panel on the left side of the screen, and now the icons are also created
beneath that. I do have the "Keep Aligned" option checked.

It seems that the grid for icons should be calculated to ensure that icons and
their labels always appear on-screen. For what it's worth, I'm running a
widescreen monitor at 1680x1050. Let me know if I can provide more information.

We've seen some problems with panel struts and widescreen displays like yours. For example, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=310208

I'm able to reproduce it using Xorg 7.2 + new intel driver (Using Ubuntu Gutsy).

For instance, my LCD that supports 1280x1024 and the main one, LVDS, supports 1280x800.

If I change the resolution of LCD to 1024x768 using xrandr, the LCD screen gets resized, but the LVDS gets resized only the gnome-panel to fit in 1024x768, which is smaller than the screen. The window manager still uses 1280x800 in that screen, like the screenshot attached in Novell's bugzilla.

Dear all, please see Bug 613111
Comment 4 William Jon McCann 2012-09-19 22:06:31 UTC
Is this still an issue with 3.6?
