Description Michael Schumacher 2006-02-01 14:01:55 UTC
This doesn't have to be something complicated - just a menu entry that calls page on www.gimp.org with the version number. For example, like http://livehttpheaders.mozdev.org/?ver=0.11 does it.
Comment 1 Sven Neumann 2006-02-16 09:34:04 UTC
If we consider this a good idea, it should be trivial to add such a link to the web-browser script-fu script (which should perhaps be renamed to web-links).
Comment 2 Tyler (please do not e-mail) 2008-08-22 21:16:30 UTC
I would like this idea as well, although an internal update would be better. Something along the lines of Firefox, where you download the affected patches, or ever Filezilla, were you check for updates, download the whole package, then install, all in an easy to use internal interface.
Comment 3 Tyler 2011-05-03 15:15:54 UTC
I'd like to see it as an option in the Help Menu.
Comment 4 Michael Natterer 2011-09-12 23:33:08 UTC
Is any of you +1 guys going to implement this?
Comment 5 Michael Schumacher 2012-03-05 16:17:37 UTC
IIRC we have a proposal about this on the mailing lists.

Comment 8 Moltres_rider 2013-02-26 02:09:10 UTC
still think this needs to be done...
Comment 9 Michael Schumacher 2013-02-26 08:47:20 UTC
Would you want to give it a try? Shouldn't bee too hard to do in e.g. Python, at least if the check is limited to the currently available releases and not a particular package for any platform.
Comment 10 Michael Schumacher 2015-12-30 11:08:26 UTC
We could do this for the Microsoft Windows platforms and Apple OS X now, as we host those builds on download.gimp.org.
