Please describe the problem:
--tab option does not work

Steps to reproduce:
yes
gnome-terminal --tab

Actual results:
new terminal is created

Expected results:
open a new tab

Does this happen every time?
yes

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

See comments in the other bug. Basically is work as designed.
gnome-terminal --window --tab --window --tab --tab
gives 2 windows, one with 2 tabs, another with 3

the --help comment refers to the --window

would make more sense to make it to where you could open a tab in a pre-existing window.
