GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 329073
Keyboard Shortcuts preferences documentation is out of date
Last modified: 2006-07-08 09:53:14 UTC
Please describe the problem: Forwarding from the Ubuntu bugtracker: https://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-doc/+bug/29120 Currently, if a user presses the 'Help' button while in the GNOME Keyboard Shortcuts preferences dialog, the help item which comes up (Chapter 9, item 17 of the Desktop User Guide) contains a table (labeled "Table 9-25") which mentions that the preferences dialog is split into "Text editing shortcuts" and "Desktop shortcuts", but the actual preferences dialog is divided into sections for "Desktop", "Sound" and "Window Management". Further, the table mentions choosing between the 'GNOME Default' and 'Emacs' keyboard shortcut settings, but the choice of default or Emacs keybindings is not offered by the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences dialog; this is a setting which, as far as I know, is only available through the GConf editor. This help item should be revised to reflect the actual contents of the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences dialog. Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
Updated and committed to CVS. Should all the shortcuts be listed & explained in the docs? If so, please reopen this bug -- but I would need a list of them all.
*** Bug 317801 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
The shortcuts for Window Management can be found in this file: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/metacity/src/metacity.schemas.in?view=markup That leaves those from the Sound and Desktop sections. I'm still not sure if it's worth listng these all in the docs. If the text in the preftool requires further explanation, then it needs rewriting. On the other hand, listing them in the docs provides the user with hyperlinks to relevant information: eg, more on workspaces, or taking screenshots.
