Description Alexander van Loon 2006-01-17 17:44:26 UTC
When I click a link in XChat-GNOME 0.8, it immediatly opens in Epiphany, my
default webbrowser. I love you guys for that, in X-Chat you had to do this with
right clicking a link, then choosing the browser (Firefox or Epiphany), then
choosing how to open it, which was very annoying. It's a great idea to integrate
X-Chat more in GNOME with XChat-GNOME.

However, if I click a link in XChat-GNOME while I have Epiphany open as well, it
opens a new window of Epiphany. Wouldn't it be better to open the link in a tab
in the existing Epiphany window instead?

x-g uses the web browser chosen in gnome-default-applications-properties.
If you want to open all your links in new tab, just choose "epiphany -n %s" as command.
Comment 2 Alexander van Loon 2006-01-17 19:57:55 UTC
Ok, thanks. But it does seem better default behavior to me. If this this functionality can't be changed by X-G, would it be better if I'd file a feature request for Epiphany then?
Comment 3 Evan Sheehan 2006-01-17 20:12:46 UTC
This functionality is not something controlled by xchat-gnome, it is a function of how your browser is configured. Firefox's tabbrowser extension provides the option to open links from external applications in a new tab, new window, or the current tab. If Epiphany doesn't provide an option like this, then you should ask them for it.
Comment 4 Guillaume Desmottes 2006-01-17 21:10:42 UTC
It's not a bug neither in Epiphany or Firefox.
You configure how GNOME have to open http link in gnome-default-applications-properties and it uses it.

I agree than it would be good to be able to easily tell him to to open links in new tab. See bug 163121 for that.

in GNOME 2.14 this (gnome-default-applications-properties) dialog is improved, you can choose to open urls in new tab
