GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 325796
Wrong view of the system tray icon
Last modified: 2006-09-24 23:03:16 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have added gdesklets into a "Startup programs" list in Gnome (2.12.2) and after a startup, system tray icon isn't viewed correctly. There's just a thin strip of the icon. If I start gdesklets in terminal, or from "Applications" menu, it works fine. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Desktop -> Preferences -> Sessions 2. Choose tab "Startup Programs" 3. Add "gdesklets" command to the "Startup programs" list 4. Restart Gnome Actual results: In system tray is just a thin strip "icon" instead of the gDesklets system tray icon Expected results: In system tray would be viewed normal gDesklets icon. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:

I've seen this bug in beta-GNOME2.12 versions but it didn't reappaer in GNOME2.12final. Since we're going to drop trayicon support I don't think that it'll be fixed. Martin, what do you think about it?
Hmm, it's a little bit confusing. I restarted my computer and everything was ok. So I logged out and then in, in case it occurs only after restarting GNOME (logging out and in), and everything is all right again. I don't know why it happened before.
It might be a bug in another library (like the egg lib). But I'm quite clueless about it. Anyway, gDesklets 0.40 won't feature the trayicon anymore; it'll instead feature a new shell.
I've seen this many times now. Even in the latest GNOME version, some tray icons are just appearing as some small lines. I think this isn't related to gDesklets, rather to the tray icon code which is now in gtk+. Reassigning to gtk-bugs.
