Description lee 2005-11-30 16:36:17 UTC
Distribution: Ubuntu 6.04 (dapper)
Package: Evolution
Severity: enhancement
Version: GNOME2.13.2 2.5.x
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Visual indication for outgoing message to be encrypted
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Mailer
Bugzilla-Version: 2.5.x
Description:
When sending an encrypted email, the user (me :) selects from the
top-menu 'Security->PGP Encypt'. This menu entry has a checkbox next to
it. Because the menu disappears immediately after the selection, there
is no visible indicator that the email is really going to be encyrpted
(e.g., that the user really selected encryption rather than missing with
the mouse and selecting that the email should just be signed, etc...).
To verify sure that the email is really going to be encyrpted when sent,
the user has to open the 'Security' submenu from the top menu again and
verify that the check-box is now selected. As it is, if the email is
sensitive enough that it should be encrypted, then it is important to
check that the selection was done properly, so the user really should
open the menu a second time to check.

It would be much nicer to have an 'lock' icon appear at the bottom (or
top) of the composer window when the email is to be encrypted when sent
-- an indicator similar to what is shown when *reading* an encrypted
email, or looking at a web page that was encrypted via SSL. This would
also be nice for the user to be able to look for as they press the
'Send' button, in case they meant to select encryption but didn't.
Currently, there no visible indication of the encryption status when you
press the send button.
