GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 322798
Rescanning or auto-updating of music collection.
Last modified: 2006-08-27 07:24:08 UTC
It would be nice if the user could either tell Banshee to rescan the music collection folder(s) and update the collection as necessary. Currently (at least in Ubuntu Breezy and from what I could tell in the changelogs for other versions) one must copy the music file to proper directory (I manage my music collection instead of Banshee) and then manually add it to the list. Obviously this is less than desireable. It would also be nice if Banshee could scan and update the music collection automagically but this could be labeled "crack" I suppose. For a point of reference, Amarok has both features implemented. Other information: (p.s. I would also like to say great work on Banshee. It's by far my favorite music player ever. I love it.)
After doing a bit more research, I found something similar mentioned in the mailing list here: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/banshee-list/2005-November/msg00060.html I'd imagine anybody associated with the development of Banshee already knows of this but it's here for reference just in case it slipped the mind.
Yes, that inotify/FAM backend is under development, and we will use Beagle at some point in the future to handle this.
I would strongly appreciate these features aswell.

According to bug 33308 the feature is request because notification still doesn't work to update ID3 tags, that I can confirm. Just as an extra or temporary option. At this moment, there are two ways to get the ID3 tags updated on banshee if the tags where changed using another application: 1. Update (again) ID3 tags from Banshee, which is uncomfortable because is useful for update one o two songs, but not for batch process (update 10 or more). 2. Delete ~/.gnome2/banshee/banshee.db and load the songs from scratch.
Am going to mark this as an enhancement. When the gstreamer tagging backend is in place in 0.11.x along with the new track models and view, this will be considered.
(Closing as this is already on http://www.banshee-project.org/FeatureRequest page)
