I am using this webcal
webcal://homepage.mac.com/macklausi/.calendars/GermanSpecials.ics

which shows the german holidays and from time to time I see all entries twice,
i.e. the entry Heiligabend (x-mas) is displayed as full day event two times on
the same day.

Am not able to open the calendar in evolution at all. The uids present in the
calendar appear in two lines which could be the problem. Are you sure ur are
able to view the calendar in 2.4.
