GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 317412
PostScript pages go blank for no reason
Last modified: 2006-12-16 12:39:37 UTC
Download a PS file from: http://cvs.freedesktop.org/xorg/xc/doc/hardcopy/Xi/ And open it in Evince. Start reading and at some point the pages will go blank, and if you go back to the beginning, those pages are blank too.
Can't seem to reproduce with evince 0.4.0/poppler 0.4.2 (cairo). Downloaded lib.PS.gz and opened it directly with evince
Ross, does theses pages display again if you wait a little? I have the same problem when scrolling too fast but the pages display after a while, I think it's basically Poppler being too slow.
I have the same problem everytime I use evince. I must close and open it once again in order to read more pages, and after having read like 5 or 6 pages, I must close and open again to keep reading from that point. It is annoying, and I think it is not related with Poppler being slow, because the CPU usage is almost 0%, and pages get never loaded. Currently, using the HEAD version (GNOME CVS HEAD, built with JHBuild) I get a big "Loading..." message in the blank page. But it never loads. It can be reproduced, for instance, with the following Postscript file: http://lat.inf.tu-dresden.de/teaching/ws2003-2004/FunkProg/Vo02_b_4.ps
Can someone reproduce any of this problems? I've failed with recent CVS. What version of ghostscript do you have?
It seems to be fixed at this moment with recent CVS evince and poppler. Now i can scroll my .ps files without problem and the bug doesn't appear.
Nice then. Thanks for testing.
I have to say that suddenly i am seeing this again. Please test with this PS: http://lat.inf.tu-dresden.de/teaching/ws2003-2004/FunkProg/Vo02_b_4.ps You will need to rotate it first. Then close it and reopen it again. Scroll up and down. If it doesn't appear soon, try closing evince and open it again. It is very weird because it doesn't happen all the time, but I built evince, poppler and all the dependences yesterday and now this is bugging again.
Let the file open for a while *without* having scrolled on it, switch to other tasks, and go back in a few minutes to evince and try to go scrolling. I think that's why no one can reproduce it (even me) intencionally, inmediatly after opening the file.
Is this reproducible with the latest Evince and Poppler?
