Steps to reproduce:
1. File -> Open
2. change the directory by doubleclicking into the filelist on the right side of
the window
3. Gimp popsup following error message:
Pango-ERROR **. file shape.c line 75(pango_shape): assertion failed:
(glyphs->num_glyphs > 0) 
aborting...

This is only with windows 98 se; and only if you change within your "home" directory
