GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 315478
New smooth path drawing tool
Last modified: 2005-09-08 14:59:49 UTC
This is a humble request for a new tool for the GIMP; the smooth path tool. Basically, it should be a simple way to draw good looking paths, and use a smoothing algorithm to make the path more smooth. After the path has been drawn, it can be modified with the usual path tool which comes with the GIMP. Such a tool will allow smooth paths to be drawn using just a mouse. At the current time, lines which are drawn freehand usually end up looking very noisy. Also, the current path tool is limited, in that it does not allow you to quickly draw complex paths using a single mouse movement (currently, the paths have to be adjusted while making the path. This is a lot of work). Such a tool is pretty common in vector drawing programs, such as Macromedia Flash. If people like the idea, I'd be happy to provide a patch. If the GIMP maintainers want to implement it themselves, that is great too.
Created attachment 51933 [details] Smooth path example This is a sample path drawn using Flash, where the entire path is drawn in a single mouse movement. Note how smooth the path is :)
A patch would be very welcome. If you have questions regarding the path infrastructure you can contact me on IRC or via Mail.
Not sure, but this request might count as a duplicate of bug #55366.
