GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 313650
Character encoding should be part of profile
Last modified: 2005-08-19 20:32:16 UTC
Character encoding (charset) should be a part of the profile. An example: I am Finnish and hence often need Scandinavian characters. Some servers where I need to connect with the terminal do not handle UTF-8 properly (which is the default charset in my distribution) and hence I need to change to ISO-8859-1 in these cases. This means useless extra clicks daily. I should be able to just have a launcher for these cases separately (such as in a drawer in the panel, which is not really relevant but anyways that's how I'd personally use it :)
A couple of days ago I filed bug 313480 which adds a "Connect to Server" dialog to the terminal that lets you choose a different encoding for each server. Screenshot of servers being edited: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=50694&action=view If encoding is added to profiles I guess removing the encoding combo box from the server editor is the right way to go. However, I think they clearly are a "per server setting".
This can be marked as a duplicate of bug 108711. I'm about to add some thoughts about use case and bug 313480 in there as well.
