Description Alexander Shopov 2005-08-07 14:52:03 UTC
Version details: CVS HEAD

Can the terms easy and medium in gnome-games be split into domains?
In Bulgarian it is impossible to find the same literal string to match the
different contexes

#: ../gataxx/properties.c:366 ../gataxx/properties.c:384
#: ../mahjongg/maps.c:534
msgid "Easy"
msgstr "Лесен"

#: ../gataxx/properties.c:367 ../gataxx/properties.c:385 ../glines/glines.c:74
#: ../gnomine/gnomine.c:82 ../gnomine/gnomine.c:635 ../same-gnome/game.c:50
msgid "Medium"

This seems reasonable and I am currently looking into what is needed to do this.
I think it is straight-forward from my end, but I don't know how much of a
problem it will be for translators, especially this late in the development
cycle. I'll post a query to the gnome-i18n list when I've figured out what I
have to do and see what the best time to do it is.
Comment 2 Danilo Segan 2005-08-08 12:24:08 UTC
Yeah, it's best done during early stages of release cycle.

My response to your e-mail (for reference):

A similar bug occured in Gnopernicus
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=169117
and has been resolved (w/ patch), using context markers.

I think the final (resolution) e-mail from gnome-i18n is
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-i18n/2005-August/msg00118.html
Comment 4 Callum McKenzie 2005-08-10 01:59:53 UTC
Are Easy and Medium the only terms that have been troublesome?

Do you know of any more that I should be applying context markers to?
Comment 5 Callum McKenzie 2005-08-10 03:54:33 UTC
I have added context tags to the Easy and Medium strings. The context tag is the
name of the game. This is a little bit inefficient since I don't think there are
five different contexts here, but I'd prefer to play it safe. I haven't added
any other context tags aside from those requested.

The code will be uploaded to the preview-2-13 branch in CVS this evening. I'm
not confident about adding it to HEAD since I'm not sure I got the usage of the
Q_ macro quite right.

If there are any other terms that need context tags added feel free to reopen
this bug.

This bug is being reassigned to the "general" component so we can close the gataxx bugzilla component. Apologies for the mass email!
