Description Clytie Siddall 2005-07-30 08:14:24 UTC
Version details: Gnome HEAD

1.
#: scripts/coffee.sct.h:2
msgid ""
"Darken only\n"
"(Better, but only for images with alot of white)"

" a lot"

2.
#: scripts/fade-outline.sct.h:6
#, no-c-format
msgid "Fade from %"

#: scripts/fade-outline.sct.h:8
#, no-c-format
msgid "Fade to %"

One of these has spaces before the % sign, and the other doesn't. Is this correct?

3.
#: scripts/glossy.sct.h:4
msgid "Blend gradient (Text)"

#: scripts/glossy.sct.h:6
msgid "Blend gradient (text)"

Do we really need both of these? if so, what is the difference between them?

4. Two more very similar strings: do we need them both?

#: scripts/gradient-bevel-logo.sct.h:4
msgid "Bevel height (Sharpness)"

#: scripts/gradient-bevel-logo.sct.h:5
msgid "Bevel height (sharpness)"

5.
It would be better to choose only one of these spellings:

#: scripts/select-to-brush.sct.h:3
msgid "File name"

#: scripts/select-to-pattern.sct.h:2
msgid "Filename"

Item 1: I have updated the coffee.sct file to use "a lot" instead of "alot" and
updated the translation files accordingly.

Item 2: The script creator apparently intended to have the % characters line up
which requires the extra spaces. Since that won't work in some language
translations I wouldn't worry about the extra spaces in the second string.

Items 3 and 4: The only difference between the strings is an inconsistency in
capitalization. For now, I'm inclined to use all lower-case letters inside the
bracketed portion unless the HIG says otherwise.

Item 5: Another bit of inconsistency. One form or the other needs to be chosen
and all scripts should use that form.

For the record, the problems mentioned in the report also affect Script-Fu.
Comment 2 Kevin Cozens 2005-07-31 15:41:57 UTC
Items 2 through 5 will affect quite a few scripts. To give the translators a
chance to get the translation files up-to-date for the 1.0 release I'm placing
this on the 1.2 milestone.
Comment 3 Kevin Cozens 2006-05-23 03:46:37 UTC
Translation files have not been updated but the script files have been changed.
