I still believe that that functionality belongs to Gtk+, not gedit.

After implementation of Bidi features (bug 353812) in GTK+, Gedit should add this features to Edit (?) menu for bidi users (bug 353805).

I believe this functionality is better of as a separate plugin (as it is now). Feel free to reopen the bug if you feel this should be part of gedit (instead of gtk+ textview context menu for instance)
