Description John Williams 2005-07-28 22:33:42 UTC
Distribution/Version: Fedora Core 4

1. Create a new file in ~/Desktop

2. In previous versions of Nautlus, the desktop was re-drawn automatically to
show the new file

3. In this version, one must open the Desktop folder and press Alt-R to redraw
the desktop and see the file.

No problem with my 2.10.0 ubuntu version.
Have you the same problem with the others directories?
Comment 2 John Williams 2005-07-28 23:03:43 UTC
Yes. Sorry I did not think to test that, but now that you suggested it I see
that the same behaviour occurs in other dirs.
Comment 3 Guillaume Desmottes 2005-07-28 23:23:10 UTC
Have you gamin running?
ps aux | grep gamin
Comment 4 John Williams 2005-07-28 23:56:15 UTC
Whoop whoop! Pull up!

My previous information was WRONG. This behaviour does not occur in other
directories. In any directory other than ~/Desktop, opening a Nautilus window
of that dir, and then touching a file (from the shell) updates that window with
the new file.

However, in ~/Desktop, that behaviour does not occur, either with the desktop
itself, or the ~/Desktop directory viewed in a Nautilus window.

Also: no gamin is not running. It is installed (version 0.1.1) but not
running. Inspecting the RPM reveals no executable file named 'gamin' either.

Humm i think that's a old bug which has been fixed.
Someone to confirm?
Comment 6 Christian Neumair 2005-07-29 11:41:28 UTC
I reproduced the same issue with FAM some days ago.
Comment 7 Guillaume Desmottes 2005-12-30 15:40:51 UTC
Have you still this issue with latest stable release ?
Comment 8 John Williams 2006-01-16 06:10:18 UTC
No, with GNOME 2.13 the desktop is redrawn correctly.
Comment 9 Daniel Holbach 2006-07-17 09:47:46 UTC
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/52941 mentions the same problem with nautilus 2.15.4
Comment 10 Sebastien Bacher 2006-07-17 13:08:27 UTC
The ubuntu bug is probably a different issue, remarking the bug as OBSOLETE
Comment 11 younker 2006-07-28 05:04:57 UTC
Yes, I also met this problem, when you create a new folder or a file form the
file browser, you need to refresh the view then you can input the file name or
directory name, I think this is a serious problem of a file manager, but I
think they should be fixed ASAP, before 2.15.3, it works fine.
