Description søren hauberg 2005-07-13 11:12:50 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I don't want to start a flame-war, so feel free to say that what I'm about to
describe is a feature and not a bug.

If I create a file, gedit also creates a backup file called filename~, which is
fine, but as a user I don't know this, since Nautilus doesn't show files ending
with ~ as default. I think it's fine that gedit creates this file but it doesn't
have any use once gedit doesn't have the original file open any longer. I don't
care about disk space or things like that, my problem is privacy. If I write
something private in gedit, and later deletes the file, then I expect it to be
deleted (which it isn't because the ~ file still exist).

By the way, vim deletes unneeded backup files.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a file in gedit containing something very personal.
2. Delete the file
3. Observe that the personal information is still on your hard disk, only the
filename has a ~ appended.

you can turn it off in the preferences.

For some odd reason I missed that, sorry. I guess this bug can be closed then.
