GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 309765
new expence account created in split transaction entry blanks out
Last modified: 2018-06-29 20:52:43 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I enter a new expense account while entering a split transaction, then say yes to the "Account doesn't exist do you want to create it?" dialog, the account name blanks out when I hit enter. I can go back in and enter it again (without having to go the the account doesn't exist dialog again), but it still dissapears. Actually, I forget now if it disappears after I hit enter or when I click on the split toggle button and then click it on again. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create split transaction with a total amount at the start 2. Enter expense account name that doesn't exist, then answer yes to the "create account" dialog. 3. Enter another subtransaction for an account that does exist (not sure that this is really required). 4. Type return, or unsplit the transaction, not sure which. Newsly created expense account will look blank in split view. Actual results: see above. Expected results: I would expect the new account name to persist once it has been created. Does this happen every time? I think so Other information: Awesome software!
I have also observed this problem (in version 1.8.11). It appears that the underlying problem is that the account isn't created (changing to the main window doesn't show it either then or after closing the account window), so the field reverts to blank as soon as it loses focus. Worrying is that no error is reported; more worrying is that it's not subsequently noticed as an unbalanced transaction.
I'm interpreting "Newly created expense account will look blank in split view" to mean that no transaction shows up in the newly created account. That's an a consequence of the fact that the new account is not being used in the transaction, which is the real bug. I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate of bug#166101. Contrary to comment #1, I do see the account created as soon as the dialog completes, but as in the original bug report, it disappears after entering other splits, or even after reselecting it. (BUT, this is all only if the new account appears as the first split. That's why this is a dup of bug#166101.) I see correct behavior when entering the new account in the second split. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 166101 ***
