Description Sergej Kotliar 2005-06-18 14:32:51 UTC
Hi!

Adobe Acrobat Reader has one good feature in its' print dialog, and that is the
ability to only print the odd or even pages in a selected interval. This allows
for people with single-sided printers to take the printed papers out, and put
them back in with the other side up, thus saving half of tha paper needed for
the print!

GNOME saves trees! (<-- It'd be great to have that feature ;-))
Comment 1 Sebastian Spaeth 2005-06-23 10:28:52 UTC
I hate "'I second this' comments" but ... I second this :-)

I installed a new cups printer using the default setting "lpoptions -o
page-set=odd". This works fine using lp/lpr however, using the gnome print
dialog *all* pages are being printed, thus rendering the default settings
useless. I suspect that the gnome print dialog overrides my default page-set
printer option.

It would be great to:
1)offer an odd/even pages only checkbox in the print dialog (preferred)
2)honor the page-set=odd[even] default settings for a printer
3)show cups printer instances in the gnome printer selection

I'm willing to put a $50 bounty on this feature (via paypal, amazon.com or cash)
if it makes it into Gnome mainline CVS. If you want to claim the bounty mail me

Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into
our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

Comment 4 Sergej Kotliar 2005-09-14 12:55:36 UTC
Hmm... since this bug is in gnome-print, and the other one in galeon, which is
almost unmaintained by now, shouldn't then that bug be a duplicate of this?
Having a galeon bug about print requests seems to me like a good way to make the
bug forgotten, rather than a correctly filed gnome-print bug.
Comment 5 Christian Persch 2005-09-16 09:01:23 UTC
Reopening. Galeon doesn't even use gnome-print.
Comment 6 Jody Goldberg 2005-09-16 13:24:41 UTC
Then we should reassign it back to galeon
Comment 7 Sergej Kotliar 2005-09-16 16:18:11 UTC
No, we shouldn't.

Christian ment that galeon doesn't use gnome-print, but this is a feature
request for gnome print, not galeon.
Comment 8 Jody Goldberg 2005-09-16 18:03:11 UTC
Then we should not re-open a dup.

Comment 9 Sergej Kotliar 2005-09-16 18:09:36 UTC
I'm sorry, but how is this a duplicate of bug 90629?
That one is about an app that uses XUL for printing, this is for gnome-print,
which is the common print interface for all (almost) GNOME apps.
If you really feel that chronological order is of such great importance, then
fine, but move that bug to gnome-print then. Which would also be wrong, cause as
Christian pointed out, galeon doesn't use gnome-print.
This is a feature request for gnome-print, not galeon. Both are valid requests
and should according to me have their own bugs. In any way - there should be a
bug in gnome-print with this feature request, how you want to do it is your choice.
Comment 10 Jody Goldberg 2005-09-16 19:04:25 UTC
Oh bother. It would help if I had read that 80629 was a galeon bug.
You are right
I am wrong.

I cloned this as a new feature request for gtk+ printing. Closing on this side.
