Description Nathan C. Garretson 2005-04-18 17:13:44 UTC
Version details: WinGIMP
Distribution/Version: Windows XP Home Edition

file -> open image as layer
click once on a .jpg file and gimp says "creating preview.."
microsoft error catches "jpeg.exe" has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Gimp Message:
Plug-In crashed: "jpeg.exe"
(C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\jpeg.exe)

The dying Plug-In may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save
your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

-----
doesn't allow .jpg files to be opened either. this only happens with SOME of my
.jpg files. The files that GIMP has trouble with are larger, +400k or bigger.

When I put my mouse over the .jpg files and get file info....
I noticed the files that GIMP can not open contain extra information, like the
date the file was "taken" an the type of camera it was taken with.
Non-problematic .jpg files do not contain this extra information. To me this
suggests some kind file format difference.

Would be really nice if people did search a while before filing duplicate bugs...
