Description Sven J. 2005-03-22 11:55:36 UTC
Description of Problem:
when i use the "Evolution Mail Configuration Assistant" to create a new
mail account and activate the "server requires authentication"-checkbox,
right after finishing the assistant, evolution turned the checkbox off again.
One has to go to the "account editor" search for the reason no mail can be
sent and activate the "server requires authentication"-checkbox again. Then
it stays.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. use assistant to create a new mail account
2. activate the "server requires authentication"-checkbox and finish the
assistant
3. try sending an email with this account, you should be asked for the smtp
password - but you only get an error from the smtp server that you need to
authenticate on smtp

Actual Results:
assistant doesnt save all information corretly

Expected Results:
!(assistant doesnt save all information corretly)

How often does this happen?
every time

Additional Information:
not only because it doesnt work well at the moment,
In my opinion we dont need assistants or wizards, the account editor works
well and is not to complex.

What type of account are you setting up? Is this when setting up a
brand new install or is this when going to preferences and adding a
new account?
Comment 2 Sven J. 2005-03-22 16:53:47 UTC
Hi, i checked the situation again to be sure.

i created an fresh user with a real empty profile and used the initial
assistant to create an mail account with imap and smtp.

receiving emails worked fine, but as i reproduced the bug - the smtp
failed and the "server requires authentication"-checkbox was false
although i choosed true in the assistent.

pictures tell more: http://www.sv1en.gmxhome.de/failed3.jpg

JP Rosevear, i can answer with "both" now.

regards, Sven

Is this definitely 2.2.1 and not 2.0.1? there was a related bug around
2.0.1 that was fixed in 2.0.3 anyhow.
Comment 4 Sven J. 2005-03-22 18:08:59 UTC
iam using gentoo's evolution-2.2.1.1 ebuild

have you tried to reproduce it?
Comment 5 JP Rosevear 2005-03-22 20:12:20 UTC
I setup a new account with auth'd smtp everytime before release, I
just tried it again on 2.2.1.1 and had no issues. I started from
scratch, entered an authenticated SMTP server (login) and continued
on. The setting was retained when editing the account both
immediately and after a restart.

I don't know how ebuild works, but does it remove all traces of
previous evolution builds?
Comment 6 Sven J. 2005-03-22 20:34:19 UTC
i'll post the bug in gentoo's bugzilla too if reasonable

btw. i used ssl and cram-md5 for authentication
Comment 7 JP Rosevear 2005-03-23 15:42:46 UTC
I retried with cram-md5 and also had no issue with it remembering the
setting. What command are you using to launch evolution?
Comment 8 Sven J. 2005-03-24 16:07:01 UTC
i just click on the evolution button in gnome-menu.

and i cant tell what exakt command is executed, because gnome 2.10 has
removed the properties/edit line in the menu's context menu!
Comment 9 JP Rosevear 2005-03-24 16:24:26 UTC
If you drag the icon to the panel and then right click->properties you
should be able to get the information.
Comment 10 Sven J. 2005-03-27 19:35:50 UTC
ls -l /usr/bin/evolution*
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root     13 22. Mär 13:14 /usr/bin/evolution ->
evolution-2.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 135932 22. Mär 13:14 /usr/bin/evolution-2.2

thats how i start evolution
Comment 11 Sven J. 2005-04-07 00:20:16 UTC
i've just installed ubuntu hoary 5.04RC with all updates and the
problem is here too with 2.2.1.1
Comment 12 Jeffrey Stedfast 2005-04-14 19:45:17 UTC
I'm unable to reproduce with evolution-2.2 as well. I think this must be a
ubuntu-specific bug. perhaps they've patched something or something.
Comment 13 Sven J. 2005-04-25 15:22:55 UTC
"I think this must be a
ubuntu-specific bug."

I have the problem on gentoo and ubuntu.
Comment 14 JP Rosevear 2005-04-26 08:05:40 UTC
Sent mail to the ubuntu packager to see if he can reproduce.
