Description Shoshannah Forbes 2005-02-05 06:21:02 UTC
Description of Problem:
When writing Hebrew plain text email, the text starts in the middle of the
line and not at the right edge of the composing window.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Start a new, plain text window (make sure that the window is wide)
2. Start writing in Hebrew
3. Notice the location of the text begining in the Window

Actual Results:
The RTL text starts mid-window

Expected Results:
Should be next to the right window side

How often does this happen?
always

Additional Information:
Comment 1 Shoshannah Forbes 2005-02-05 06:28:19 UTC
Also, when starting to write the Hebrew text, I get these two
assertions in the console:
(evolution-2.2:30506): GLib-GObject-WARNING **:
IA__g_object_weak_unref: couldn't find weak ref 0x4152fef0(0x87dacf0)

** (evolution-2.2:30506): CRITICAL **: html_a11y_text_get_text:
assertion `end_offset <= to->text_len' failed

shoshannah, do you still see this in 2.4.0? thanks in advance...
Comment 7 Shoshannah Forbes 2005-12-03 23:01:28 UTC
Sorry for the late reply- Yes, I see this with 2.4.1 (on Ubuntu PPC)- again,
this is for plain email text only.
Comment 8 André Klapper 2006-01-12 11:30:04 UTC
targetting to 2.4.x with the new, fresh and greasy(TM) 2.4.x target milestone provided by harish. ;-)
Comment 9 André Klapper 2006-01-30 23:31:21 UTC
also see bug 311995, bug 314988, bug 325950, bug 272237. duplicate triagers please go ahead. ;-)
Comment 10 André Klapper 2006-08-22 13:46:22 UTC
** (evolution-2.2:30506): CRITICAL **: html_a11y_text_get_text:
assertion `end_offset <= to->text_len' failed
is bug 327169 and will be fixed in evolution 2.8.
Comment 11 Daniel Holbach 2006-09-28 16:34:45 UTC
Bug 314988 was just closed - anybody on here who still has the problem?
Comment 12 Kjartan Maraas 2006-12-03 17:14:25 UTC
I still see the glib warning about the weak ref, but no visible problems. Maybe someone actually using rtl languages need to confirm this though.
Comment 13 Kjartan Maraas 2006-12-03 17:14:54 UTC
Removing the old milestone.
Comment 14 Daniel Holbach 2006-12-06 16:02:22 UTC
A user on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gtkhtml3.8/+bug/4977/comments/8 says:

"""
solved problem:
1.the problem with gtkhtml seems to be mostly solved.
there's no longer complete mix up of the sentence.
remaining evolution problems:
...
(list of other evolution problems.
"""

I think it's safe to close the bug and wait for more detailed and up-to-date bugs.
Comment 15 Shoshannah Forbes 2006-12-06 16:18:29 UTC
This bug was never about mix up of sentences, so I don't see why that being solved affects this.

Anyway, I don't have an updated linux here- hopefully I'll have one next week, and then I'll be able to update if this bug is still there or not.
Comment 16 André Klapper 2014-12-02 01:06:37 UTC
Since version 3.6, Evolution uses WebKit instead of GtkHtml for displaying messages. (And for completeness, Evolution 3.14 is planned to use WebKit also for composing and editing messages so GtkHtml will not receive any fixes anymore.)

Hence I am closing this GtkHtml rendering bug report.
We are sorry that your request was not handled in time when it was reported but unfortunately manpower is very limited (and does not allow testing every single reported issue separately again either).

Please feel free to reopen this report (and move it to the "Evolution" product and the "Mail" component) if the problem described in this bug report still happens in a recent supported Evolution version which uses WebKit (the current stable Evolution version is 3.12).
