GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 246240
Color selector buttons unlike normal GNOME ones
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
The following dialogs contain color selector buttons: - Properties: Text dialog (To open, choose File > New > Mail Message, then choose Format > Text.) - Properties: Page dialog (To open, choose File > New > Mail Message, then choose Format > Page.) The color selector button, and the technique for choosing colors, is different from the normal GNOME color selector buttons. For example, compare them to selecting a color for a panel (right-click on the panel and choose Properties, click on the Background tab, select color from the Background type drop-down list. The Background color button here is different from the ones in the dialogs I mention above. It would be good if these were consistent. This bug blocks bug 246224.
The colors listed in the color selector are a subset of the "web-safe" ones, presumbaly because the composer is based on an HTML editor. If you click the "custom color" button in the bottom of the dropdown matrix, you'll get the standard gnome color picker. The problem for us is that there is no standard widget to do what we want to do in the composer -- offer a list of commonly used colors, and the ability to specify any color. What do you think about this?
Somehow I missed that the Custom Color button at the bottom opens the standard GNOME way to choose colors. It sounds like these are two different functions: - Choose websafe color - Choose non-websafe color I think this is something that needs to be dealt with in the documentation. Closing the bug.
