Description Eugene O'Connor 2003-07-13 21:43:38 UTC
Save Search dialog - To open, choose Search > Save Search. Or choose
Search > Edit Saved Searches, click Add.

1. Would it be more logical to put the Add button and Execute actions drop-
down list below the table of criteria? Would this make more sense from a
usability point of view?

This bug blocks bug 246224.
Comment 1 Anna Marie Dirks 2003-09-18 15:23:46 UTC
So *I* don't think that this would make much of a difference. Can you
explain why you think it might help?
Comment 2 Eugene O'Connor 2003-10-08 11:35:44 UTC
Users already have one row of what the Add button gives them when they
open the dialog. I am trying to follow a principle of moving from
simple to complex down the dialog. That is, don't make the user need
to figure out the relationship between these three elements until they
need to. It may be that they will not need to use the Add button at
all, so why confuse the path to the rule row with the Add button?

Anna, you're the usability expert, and if you don't think this will
improve the usability of this dialog, that's fine by me. However, it
might be worthwhile including a short test on this topic if you are
doing usability testing on Evolution at some point in the future.
Comment 3 André Klapper 2006-01-09 02:13:14 UTC
at least retargetting from 2.3 to 2.5
Comment 4 André Klapper 2006-02-27 23:41:33 UTC
did not happen in 2.5 timeframe, changing target milestone to "future".
Comment 5 Matthew Barnes 2008-03-11 00:26:57 UTC
Bumping version to a stable release.
Comment 6 Milan Crha 2008-07-11 07:11:47 UTC
This bug seems like obsolete to me, the dialog looks a bit different than it is described above...
Comment 7 Kandepu Prasad 2008-08-13 19:11:11 UTC
Milan: Even with the current Evolution stable 2.22.3.1 the "Add Filter Criteria" button is still above the table. I think the reporter was referring to this button to be below the criteria table. But still I'm not sure how far it makes any difference.
Comment 8 Matthew Barnes 2008-08-13 20:26:09 UTC
+0 on moving the Add button (if for nothing more than to make that row look less cluttered), but I think the "Include threads" and "Find items" options should stay where they are.
Comment 9 Milan Crha 2008-08-14 08:24:10 UTC
I'm against moving the button too, it's quite usual to read from top to bottom, thus why one should go through empty box and then realize the add button belongs to that empty thing? I vote for "let it be as it is now".
Comment 10 Milan Crha 2009-01-08 15:05:10 UTC
No complains, I'm closing it.
