Description Andre Spiegel 2002-11-16 08:04:39 UTC
The key binding to toggle the Preview Pane has changed from Q to a
backquote (`) in Evolution 1.2, as far as I can see. Since the backquote
is a dead key on my German keyboard, I cannot use this key binding. I can
normally enter a backquote in any application (such as this bug report
form) by typing <BACKQUOTE> <SPACE>, but this does not do anything in
Evolution.

Toggling the Preview Pane is very important for me, and I'm now using the
general menu shortcut <ALT>-V P to do it, but this is too complicated to type.

I really would like to have a new key binding for this, which I can type
with a single key stroke. For example, the equal sign (=) is the key that
the Gnus newsreader in Emacs uses for this.

Getting <BACKQUOTE> <SPACE> to work would not be an ideal solution (still
too complicated to type), and no, sorry, I cannot switch to a keyboard
layout with no dead keys.

Thanks for considering this, and thanks for the good work!

I have now set up a function key under X to produce a backquote. This
solves the problem completely for now, so I have decreased the
priority of this report to "Wishlist".
