GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 222946
Folders are inaccessible if mail account name contains a forward slash character
Last modified: 2002-05-06 22:23:26 UTC
Description of Problem: If your mail account name contains a forward slash character, the folder bar incorrectly displays bolded texts "Summary" for each and every folder, instead of the actual folder names, and will not allow you to access a folder in this account. This behavior was observed both with an IMAP and a Connector/Exchange account. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Make sure you have the menu selection View -> Folder Bar enabled. 2. Create or modify a mail account by selecting Tools -> Mail Settings... from the menu. 3. In the Account Information and Name field, type e.g. "John Smith / ACME", and click the OK button to save your changes. 3. Restart Evolution and look at the folder bar. Try to click on one of the 'folders' in this mail account. Actual Results: Evolution displays the folder hierarchy fine (i.e. folders are expandable if they contain subfolders), but instead of the actual folder names, it just displays "Summary". Clicking on one of the folders will perform no action whatsoever. Expected Results: Obvious. Folder bar should display names such as Inbox, Outbox, etc. instead of the text "Summary" for each folder. Clicking on a folder should display its contents. How often does this happen? Every time. Additional Information: Although this problem is very easy to work around (remove the slash from the mail account name), finding out what was causing the problem was a very laborous task. After all, who might have guessed such a simple thing as the mail account name would render you practically unable to access your mail server with Evolution? Presumably this same problem could be reproduced using some other "special" character than the forward slash.
