While reading e-mail encoding is not taken in to acount
Last modified: 2001-09-14 19:12:32 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you are doing. Description of Problem: encoding is not taken in to acount when viewing e-mails so I have to change the fonts based on the e-mail I like to view... Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: Expected Results: How often does this happen? Allways. Additional Information:
Are you referring to multiple encodings for the same language (eg, cp1253 vs iso-8859-7 for Greek), or encodings for different languages?
Well you are right the problem is about different encoding for the same language. Sorry fot not mentioning it before...
Hm. OK, that's supposed to work. Could you attach sample messages that aren't being displayed correctly, and say what fonts you need to use to display each one?
btw, I just fixed some charset issues relating to windows-cp125# more iconv brokenness...yay. I just love glibc.
I installed 0.13 today and now that I try to send you a message example it works!!! It is the 0.13 or the truetype fonts I installed yesterday. But there are still messages that I can't view since some mailers claim iso8859-1 instead of iso8859-7 for example. In this case a "manual" selection of encoding would be very helpfull. An example is this message : X-UIDL: 39cd38a300000545 X-Mozilla-Status: 0003 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Return-Path: <assinik@unipi.gr> Received: from forthnet.gr (athmta01.forthnet.gr [193.92.150.23]) by rainbow.cs.unipi.gr (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id KAA10911 for <harkal@rainbow.cs.unipi.gr>; Tue, 19 Jun 2001 10:15:30 +0300 Received: from assinik1.unipi.gr (ppp927.ath.forthnet.gr [212.251.95.132]) by forthnet.gr (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id LAA26370 for <harkal@rainbow.cs.unipi.gr>; Tue, 19 Jun 2001 11:10:16 +0300 Message-Id: <5.0.2.1.0.20010619004702.00a6a720@127.0.0.1> X-Sender: ASSINIK.ATH.FORTHNET.GR/popper.forthnet.gr@127.0.0.1 X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 5.0.2 Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 00:48:19 +0300 To: "Harry Kalogiroy" <harkal@rainbow.cs.unipi.gr> From: Nikitas Assimakopoulos <assinik@unipi.gr> Subject: Note Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="=====================_1223783==_.ALT" Status: X-Evolution: 00000288-0010 --=====================_1223783==_.ALT Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable =C1=E3=E1=F0=E7=F4=DD =D7=DC=F1=E7, =D3=E5 =F0=E5=F1=E9=EC=DD=ED=F9 =F3=F4=EF =C3=F1=E1=F6=E5=DF=EF = =EC=EF=F5 =F4=E7=ED =D4=E5=F4=DC=F1=F4=E7 20/6/2001 =F3=F4=E9=F2 11.00. =CC=E5 =E5=EA=F4=DF=EC=E7=F3=E7, =CD.=C1. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Professor Nikitas Assimakopoulos, Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus, 80, Karaoli & Dimitriou Str., GR-185 34 Piraeus, Greece. --=====================_1223783==_.ALT Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
=C1=E3=E1=F0=E7=F4=DD =D7=DC=F1=E7,

<x-tab> </x-tab>=D3=E5 =F0=E5=F1=E9=EC=DD=ED=F9 =F3=F4=EF =C3=F1=E1=F6=E5=DF=EF =EC=EF=F5 =F4=E7= =ED =D4=E5=F4=DC=F1=F4=E7 20/6/2001 =F3=F4=E9=F2 11.00.

<x-tab> </x-tab>=CC=E5 =E5=EA=F4=DF=EC=E7=F3=E7,
<x-tab> </x-tab>=CD.=C1.
<x-sigsep>
</x-sigsep> <font size=3D2 color=3D"#0000FF">------------------------------------------= ------------------------

Professor Nikitas Assimakopoulos,
Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus,
80, Karaoli & Dimitriou Str., GR-185 34 Piraeus, Greece.

--=====================_1223783==_.ALT-- To view the above mail I have to change the font to this one : -grinet-greek times-medium-r-normal--19-140-100-100-p-99-iso8859-1 and when you change fonts from the gnome-control-panel->Document Handlers->HTML Viewers the "mail component" of evolution crashes and I have to reload it...
OK, cool. Being able to override the character set specified in the message is already filed as another bug, so I'm marking this as a duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 200921 ***
