GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 207726
Search Bar's "Find Now" button should switch to say "Clear" when a search is active
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:02:48 UTC
Package: Evolution Priority: Normal Version: 0.12.99 Synopsis: Search Bar's "Find Now" button should switch to say "Clear" when a search is active Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Shell Description: This would make searching a lot more usable, as I sometimes miss that a search is active. Also, I think you should be able to drop the "Clear" item from the "Search" drop down menu.
Dropping the search menu's "Clear" item also has the nice effect of making the search menu *only* related to Saving the current search or accessing other saved searches.
This is a good idea, I think, but we really need to start drawing a line on new functionality and UI... .so marking future as per policy.

From the dup, a slightly different twist on the same suggestion: --- In order to further make the UI more transparent to new users, the Activate button should be a toggle button, possibly with a different name (or possibly with 'Deactivate' when the button is depressed). New users do not necessarily know to go to the (badly named) Search menu to deactivate their search - adding a toggle button which accurately represented the current state of the search would be very helpful.
Setting this to 1.1.
I think the the phrase "clear" on the search menu in the mail index view is a little confusing. It took me a little while to figure out that that would reset this view to the unfiltered inbox. I think that a different term should really be used as the term clear has a lot of scarey synonyms like delete and wipe. Maybe Reset or Return or Unfilter or something, words arn't really coming to mind right now :) I just have to say it, THIS SEARCH FEATURE ROCKS! This alone has totally converted me to Evolution for ever after :)
Because of the decision to remap 1.1->1.2 and 1.2->1.4, I'm going to be moving a large number of bugs around in the bugzilla. You can just search on 'body contains' 'Because of the decision to remap' and mark all as read. Please direct all questions about this change to evolution@ximian.com, not the bug. Luis
anna, is this covered as part of some of your other 'redo the search bar' bugs?
This bug's functionality is covered in the fix for 16246, which has been (more or less) completed in cvs.
