Description Gregory Leblanc 2001-04-30 16:41:13 UTC
When viewing message "threads" with the newest messages at the top of the
list, threads expand down. While this makes sense when the oldest message
is at the top, things are "backwards" when the newest messages are at the
top. I'd really like to see things expand "up" rather than "down",
although I can certainly see some people being surprised by this. However,
I don't see any other way of getting messages sorted in the right order,
when using theaded view and having the newest messages displayed first.
Could we get this implemented in some trial fasion, at least?

How can a tree expand 'up' ?????
Comment 2 Gregory Leblanc 2001-05-01 15:14:53 UTC
Exactly the same way that it expands down, only in reverse. Instead
of the branches of the tree being displayed below the trunk of the
tree, they get displayed above it.

depends on 3206
Comment 7 Jeffrey Stedfast 2005-04-14 19:16:45 UTC
this requires changes to GAL (and in fact only GAL afaict)
Comment 8 C.J. Collier 2007-03-27 22:58:20 UTC
sounds like the thread post order should be the same as global post order, ie if oldest is on top in the inbox, oldest should be on top in the thread. Likewise, if newest is on top in the inbox, newest should be on top in the thread.
Comment 9 André Klapper 2021-05-19 11:37:20 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
