Description Gregory Smith 2005-03-05 17:08:10 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I installed pango 1.8, and the kerning of text is much worse than in 1.6. I turn
hinting off, and I use subpixel rendering (although disabling it does not
improve kerning). With hinting on text looks fine. Downgrading to 1.6 restored
proper kerning. A comparison is at http://www.treellama.org/pango-comparison.png
. 1.8 is on the left, 1.6 is on the right.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Disable hinting

Actual results:
http://www.treellama.org/pango-comparison.png (left side)

Expected results:
http://www.treellama.org/pango-comparison.png (right side)

Does this happen every time?
yes

You apparently weren't testing with the newly released 1.8.1.
