Description Roland Stigge 2005-02-13 16:30:37 UTC
A Debian user wrote the following "wishlist bug":

============================================================================
Suggestion: change the control key to allow ignoring the grid while
moving or resizing objects. Right now it has the same function as
the shift key, which is redundant.

The alt key is usually reserved for the window manager and allows
windows to be moved.

Snap-to-grid can be toggled with the icon in the bottom status bar. While not as easy as using the
shift key, I do believe there are more useful ways to use the shift key. Many users have suggested
various uses of it, but there seems to be little consensus on what would be the best.

We probably need to provide a way so that users can assign custom menu shortcuts
like they used to be able to. that would make it even easier to toggle the snap
to grid option. in the absence of any "best" answer it would make sense to at
least try to keep the behaviour of the shift key consistant with other
applications (like the GIMP, Inkscape, or maybe Visio).

(as some of you already know) Dynamic keybindings are no longer turned on by
default in gtk because it can interfere with keyboard based menu navigation, but
the GIMP provides a Preference Item that allows the users to enable it and then
turn it back off during normal usage.
