GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166263
mplayer/xine break settings for surround sound GStreamer
Last modified: 2009-09-09 16:54:14 UTC
When I play music via rhythmbox on my surround system (using audioconvert and audioscale) it is really great. But if I want to watch a DVD after that I don't have sound on my center box. If I unload the sound card module and load it again, restore the mixer settings, everything is fine for DVD playback in mplayer/xine, but after listening to musik it's broken again.
I assume it's a xine/mplayer bug (they usually copy each other's code). Does rhythmbox' surround sound still work after using mplayer? If so, it's definately not a gst bug.
Or it could be an ALSA bug? I'm not sure if it is pertinent, but xine/mplayer both use plug:surround51 devices, whereas we just open the device in 6 channels mode AIUI.
any idea on what's going on here ?
sven: ping?
Pong: cannot give more information right now: gstreamer-0.10 doesn't allow me to play 6-channel audio on alsa anymore :(
ping? I think 6-channel audio was added some time ago in 0.10.
As surround sound still doesn't work over here, I can't tell. (see bug 334880)
This is intersting: GStreamer 0.8 was definitely broken! I can't even play music with GStreamer 0.10 after using the surround feature of 0.8.
I think the question in comment #6 has been answered. I am thus reopening. Sven, is this still an issue?
Sven, do you still see this issue with current gstreamer ?
