GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 166262
Need to test the surround system installation
Last modified: 2008-08-29 14:13:46 UTC
It would be very cool if GStreamer allows people to write a small application that speaks some words on the different boxes of a surround system (e.g. "left rear box" on the left rear box). This would be useful to check the installation of the audio system.
I guess a testsource could be written for this. But basically playing some of the standard 6channel testfiles available should accomplish the same thing.
No. But I'm working on this in gnome-media...
I just tried some test files on my setup, and am having some problems (my speakers are set to the right channels in Windows). I got different (but both incorrect) results with gstreamer and xine for a 6 channel test ogg, and the wma test only ran in xine and cut off early. This applet would definitely be a good thing to have. I've been able to have all my speakers work in linux for a while (more recently without any tweaking), but whether or not I'm getting upmixed 2 channel or real 5.1 has always been a bit up in the air.
Should be in the sound capplet in the control-center. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 519438 ***
