Open an indexed GIF, convert it to RGB, open another indexed GIF (it can be the
same image) as a new layer.
I personally did it from the gifs at the top of the page at
http://www.pitofhorror.com/features/evildead.html

GIMP does certainly not use imlib nor imlib2.

This is not reproducable with the current CVS version of the stable branch. I
guess it is the same problem that caused bug #163879 and that it got fixed with it.
