GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 164562
Autodetection of soundsystem
Last modified: 2005-01-25 17:34:24 UTC
This is a wish, not a bug: I wonder if there could be an (optional) autodetection mechanism for the audio subsystem, maybe in the following order: * If a JACKd is present, use the JACK output plugin * If no JACKd is present, try using ALSA resp. DMIX * If ALSA is not present but OSS is detected, use OSS output This would make the audio subsystem transparent to the user. The user hadn't to think about the different sound systems. Just an idea, but I think it's worth a try.
