Description Reed Hedges 2005-01-18 16:37:53 UTC
I would like to be able to label the points of an XY graph (either normal or
with lines) with either one or both of the data values for that point, but
couldn't figure out how to do this.

Thanks!

Gnumeric still lacks support for data point labels.

It would be of great usage to enable data labeling in any kind of chart (e.g. in a pie chart, so that you can label the pieces of the pie chart with the corresponding percentage) - especially for scientific work: any kind of chart without data labels is not very convincing.
Comment 6 Andreas J. Guelzow 2009-12-28 19:43:43 UTC
eppler: any pie chart in scientific work is not very convincing. But in the case of pie charts you can add a legend and get labels the pie indirectly labelled that way.

I just want to add that this feature should allow arbitrary text in the data point label (not just x or y values themselves). For example, if I have a spreadsheet with three columns, (name, x, y), I should be able to get an XY scatter plot where each point is labeled with the text from the name column.
Comment 9 Jean Bréfort 2011-03-14 21:06:50 UTC
I have a patch which does that. Just it is not finished, and it will wait until we branch anyway.
Comment 10 Andreas J. Guelzow 2011-09-08 06:22:58 UTC
Jean, it looks to me like you implemented this!
Comment 11 Jean Bréfort 2011-09-08 11:14:16 UTC
Not fully implemented, only in bar/col and scatter plots for now.
Comment 12 Jean Bréfort 2011-09-08 11:34:13 UTC
Hmm, and percentage does not work yet, although the API is there
