GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 163865
Overwrite confirmation dialog should contain timestamps, size and readable filename
Last modified: 2005-09-30 10:35:25 UTC
Copy a file with a long path to a directory where a file with the same name already exists. The dialog asks whether to overwrite /home/username...xxxxx. There no way to judge whether this is save. The filename is not clear since the distinctive part of a filename is the last part, but only the few last characters are displayed. The first part /home/username hardly contains any information, and is conflicting with the policy to hide the location of the home dir. The desktop icon does not say /home/user name but username's Home. Additionally, the dialog does not show the modification date and size of the file, which is vital information in this situation. Because a user can easily overwrite the wrong file, which can result in serious data loss, I mark this as a "critical".
