GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 162162
gedit open the same file over and over again
Last modified: 2004-12-24 21:12:01 UTC
Distribution: Slackware Slackware 10.0.0 Package: gedit Severity: normal Version: GNOME2.8.0 2.8.x Gnome-Distributor: Dropline Systems Synopsis: gedit open the same file over and over again Bugzilla-Product: gedit Bugzilla-Component: general Bugzilla-Version: 2.8.x Description: Description of Problem: If a text file from nautilus is clicked over and over again, gedit opens a tab for every click... this is NOT good, because creates a lot of confusion with modified/unmodified files. I lost several lines because of this. It would be good [ehm it would be necessary!] if just only one tab was open for a single file. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. just click from nautilus or from shell a text file over and over again Actual Results: gedit open a tab for every click on the same file... Expected Results: How often does this happen? always Additional Information: I'm running gedit 2.8.0 on dropline gnome - slackware. Before filing this bug I checked the Changelog in cvs for a fix, but not found. I hope it's not a feature to open more tabs. ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2004-12-24 09:08 ------- Unknown platform unknown. Setting to default platform "Other". This is a dup... For the record, I am not sure that forcing a "spatial behavior" on gedit (just 1 view per file) is the right thing to do: for instance opening the same file twice to compare the modified one from the original is a totally legit thing to do. Beside every other text editor on earth allows you to open the same text file more than once, so I do not consider it a very surprising behavior *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 143646 ***
