Description Emilis Dambauskas 2004-11-20 10:56:50 UTC
1. Open Nautilus file manager window
2. Go: Edit -> Preferences -> Behavior

3. The setting "Always open in browser windows" is too close to options "Single
click to activate items" and "Double click to activate items". On some Gnome
themes it may look like a member of the radio buttons group.

I know this because I overlooked it two times myself, a friend of mine
overlooked it one time. I found it only when very explicitly told where to look
for it.

The Gnome theme I use is "Mist". It's controls are lower contrast than the
Default Gnome theme. Other Gnome themes (installed on my computer) that may have
this problem are: Human, CleanIce-Debian, DebianRed, GrandCanyon (definately,
since the unselected radio button and unchecked checkbox look completely the
same), Industrial, LightHouseBlue.

any suggestion to change that?
Comment 2 Emilis Dambauskas 2005-06-06 16:43:11 UTC
Hmm... I see two options:

option 1: add empty space between the singleclick/doubleclick radio button group
and the "always open in browser windows" checkbox.

option 2: create a separate group title for the "always open in browser windows"
checkbox. It could be called "Browser Windows". (By group title I mean these
bold names: "Behavior", "Executable text files", "Trash").

Cc'ing usability maint and noting that this is still a problem in 2.11.
Comment 4 Calum Benson 2005-07-15 17:32:54 UTC
Yeah, I would just leave a bit of a gap between the radio buttons and the
checkbox. (Probably 12 or 24 pixels as per the HIG, whichever looks better.)

My preferred way of fixing this would be by replacing the checkbox with a menu item, as described in bug 170546.
