Description Leon Ho 2004-09-06 08:05:49 UTC
Description of problem:
When printing in gedit with hi_IN.UTF-8 on default font sizes (Body is size 9;
Headers and footers is size 11), I encounter the postscript did not have any
glyphs whereas pdf output is okay. This bug will cause all Indic users unable to
print out their document to printer (using postscript)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.7.X

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Shree hi font
2. LANG=hi_IN.UTF-8 gedit
3. cut and paste some liguature at
http://bob.brisbane.redhat.com/eng/indic/hindi/BrowserTest_Hindi.html
4. File -> Page Setup -> Fonts -> Restore Default Fonts (so that the
Body is size 9; Headers and footers is size 11)
5a. File -> Print -> Postscript -> File
or
5b. File -> Print -> PDF -> File

5a. ggv output.ps
or
5b. ggv output.pdf

Actual results:
- PDF file is okay and print okay
- PS file shows sqaures on dev characters

Expected results:
- Both PS and PDF file is okay and print okay

Additional info:
if I changed the headers font by default from Sans 11 to
Sans 9, then Monospace 9 will produce the correct output from postscript.

I suspect that this is indeed bug 139687
Comment 2 Leon Ho 2004-09-07 00:30:13 UTC
Maybe it is a bit different. AFAIS:
 - In that particular case, he got problems on header and footer, and in this
case it is body. I have tested if I reverse to have header to have size 9 and
body to have size 11 then the header is still okay
 - Current gnomeprint can able to print it in english, or CJK languages, but not
in Indic

Will I generate both postscripts (works and not works) on same document will
help you debug further? Thanks.

It may be useful to have those 2 postscript files, but I don't know enough about
those glyph issues to be really of much help.

Andreas, do you have contact of the authors of libgnomeprint/ttsubset/*? Maybe
it is worthwhile to cc them onto this bug as it highly likely related to that
new part of gnomeprint.
Comment 7 Andreas J. Guelzow 2004-09-08 18:13:12 UTC
I don't have any special contact with them (I believe they are based at Sun),
but Jody will know how to point out this bug to them.
Comment 8 Jody Goldberg 2004-09-09 02:43:33 UTC
Can you give this a try with cvs head. There was a bug related to font sizes
and subsetting that was fixed a few weeks ago.
Comment 9 Leon Ho 2004-09-13 02:24:47 UTC
Jody, I have compiled the latest cvs head and look like it is fixed. Thanks!
